In this section, we present some of the classroom situations that can benefit with a Taking Sides volume and the approaches that instructors have used to incorporate Taking Sides into these situations. As a critical-thinking tool, a Taking Sides volume is particularly suited to:
  Teaching Students to Think Critically

  Discussing Controversies with Your Students

  Teaching Through Formal Debate

The techniques that we introduce will help you insure that your students get the most out of their Taking Sides reader. We have put together Student Handouts to make it easier for you to incorporate these techniques into your classroom. Some of the classroom techniques provided within require much attention on the instructor's part, while others demand that students pursue the additional information on their own. You may choose to combine two or more of the techniques to produce a detailed course outline, or you may prefer to use a single technique throughout the course (see Appendix 1 for several sample course outlines utilizing Taking Sides).
