From the International Power Index below you will have the ability to select those elements that you believe will make your country stronger and more powerful than those countries that surround it. However, since humans have yet to perfect any system, you will have to choose the elements carefully. Each element has a power rating with a numerical value between 1 and 10 points. You are allowed a total power rating of 200 points out of a total of 260. The closer you get to 200, obviously, the more powerful you will perceived to be by the international community and the more successful you will be as a world leader. Please Note: since military and economic power are not discussed in this chapter in your text, they are not a crucial part of this power index.

Select the element you are interested in from the list on the left below. You will then be shown the power rating and description of the element. If you would like to add the element to your country click the "Add to Country" button. The element will appear on your list on the right, and the power rating will be deducted from your total allotment. Continue in this fashion until you have reached your total allotment. If you wish to start over click the "Clear order" button to remove ALL items from your list.

Now that you have created your new country making it as powerful as you were able given the limitations of the power index, please describe it in the space below. Why did you make the choices you did? How often did you have to compromise your choice? What effect did the compromise have, if any, on the creation of your country? Will you have the respect of your neighbors, or will they fear you? Did you give your country a name? If so, what is it? Would you like to live there? Why? Or Why not? Add any other information that will convince your instructor that you understand the concept and characteristics of power.
