World War II Europe

The east-west struggle that dominated world politics for about 40 years was epitomized by the opposing cold war alliances of NATO, formed in 1949, and the Warsaw Pact, founded in 1955. With the end of the cold war, many of the territorial adjustments made between 1939 and 1946 were unfrozen. Some people believe that Germany may one day press Poland for the return of territory given to Poland after World War II.
