Chapter 12 Overview

Looking Ahead

Higher Education not only broadens intellectual horizons, it also extends cultural horizons. University and college campuses provide a place and an environment where you can interact with others from different customs, perspectives, and backgrounds. Most students develop many different academic and social perspectives by engaging in relationships with people from diverse cultural origins.

Cultural awareness broaden most students' thinking which makes them more tolerant, worldly, and understanding of his or her family, relationships, earning a living, and the value of education. Some students may even shed the prejudices and stereotypes that they previously held against particular cultures and people. The relationships built in college can also help you in your future career because you will understand, accept, and be able to work effectively with people who are from a different race, ethnicity, or culture.
