The Case of...Divulging in Diversity

Chapter twelve asks you to focus on getting along with others. Most students find themselves in a transitional phase of cultural competence in college. College is an opportunity to meet people with different ethical and cultural backgrounds. No matter what college you are at, simply finding yourself away from home can aid your efforts to learn about other cultures by just being in a different environment. Have you even taken an anthropology course, studied religion, or taken a history course to make yourself more culturally competent? Have you ever studied abroad? If so, what types of people have you met and how has knowing them broadened your cultural horizons? Do you find yourself getting along with your roommates from different cultural backgrounds? Do you think that you are very accepting to those that are from a different race, ethnicity, and cultural background?

In the box below, explain the successful relationships that you formed with your fellow classmates, roommates, or teachers. Other students may profit from your knowledge and experience, or you may get some helpful ideas from other students as well.
