Chapter 11 Overview Looking Ahead Most freshmen are newcomers in exploring the range of possibilities that college has to offer. You are beginners at thinking about what interests you most, knowing who you are, and who you would like to be. Finding a major that reflects your interests can be a difficult reality for many students. What challenges you, keeps your attention, and entices your curiosity? Your willingness to take academic chances by signing up for courses not necessarily to your liking, or that are required by your school may lead you to discover newfound strengths, talents, and interests. The challenge of taking courses that are difficult can be a positive experience. The challenge, after all, is what most students learn from. If you are unclear about the courses that you are required to take, or the courses that you would like to take but do not seem to follow your school's academic sequence for your major, be sure to check with your advisor. He or she should be able to clarify what courses you need to prepare yourself for graduation, for a career, or for graduate school.
