Do you know someone who is particularly successful at writing and speaking? Does he or she know where to start an essay paper? Or organize a research paper? Does this person brainstorm or outline before writing each paper and presentation? Is this person always eloquent with his or her words and persuasive with his or her speeches? Does this person stay relaxed, confident, and focused while writing a paper or delivering a speech? How does he or she do it? Would others learn from his or her experiences?
Nominate this person to be the focus of the Speaking of Success feature in Chapter eight of the next edition of P.O.W.E.R. Learning. In a brief essay, written in the space below, explain why you feel this person would be a good choice as a role model for writing and speaking. Be sure to use specific examples of his or her success. Broad generalities won’t suffice. At the end of a semester, all students using the text and this Web site will be allowed to vote for their choice, although you will not be able to vote for your nomination. The student receiving the most votes may be featured in the next edition of the text, if he or she so chooses. You can view the current entries here.
