David Buss
David Buss was born on April 14, 1953, in Indianapolis to two teachers. Not being an especially motivated student, he dropped out of high school and worked at a truck stop for a while before going back to complete
high school.
     After graduating from the University of Texas, he attended the University of California at Berkeley. He earned his Ph.D. in personality psychology from the University of California in 1981.
     He taught at Harvard University until 1985, when he accepted a position at the University of Michigan. In 1996 he joined the psychology faculty at the University of Texas.
     Buss is best known for his evolutionary psychology research on gender differences in mate selection, described in his book The Evolution of Desire: Strategies of Human Mating (Basic Books, 1994).
