3. The first 2 years of life is defined as infancy. Overall, the infant's senses appear to be much more developed than was once thought. Within a few days of birth, the neonate's hearing is normal. Infants can discriminate different tastes and smells. Infants prefer complex visual stimuli, especially when they resemble the human face.
